An Invaluable Soul

We wanted to share with you our sweet babe. Eleven weeks old and so perfectly human.

When the tears flow and my heart hurts, I look at this picture and see that the impact of our baby's life will last so much longer than 11 weeks. This picture shows an unmistakeable humanity that needs to be acknowledged, especially in the world we live in.

Through miscarriage I have learnt that there is so much more to motherhood than raising children, wiping little bums, and kissing boo-boos. We give our hearts to our children, and while we may not get the chance to hold all of our babies, we've been given the gift to create their souls.

“The most important person on earth is a mother. She cannot claim the honor of having built Notre Dame Cathedral. She need not. She has built something more magnificent than any cathedral– a dwelling for an immortal soul, the tiny perfection of her baby’s body . . . The angels have not been blessed with such a grace. They cannot share in God’s creative miracle to bring new saints to Heaven. Only a human mother can. Mothers are closer to God the Creator than any other creature; God joins forces with mothers in performing this act of creation . . . What on God’s good earth is more glorious than this; to be a mother?”

"I'll Show Them."

It happens all the time. We have a falling out with someone and leave with the attitude, “Well, I’ll show them.” Someone doesn’t show us kindness or respect, so we decide that we’re not going to show them any either. We give them the cold shoulder like we’re trying to teach them a lesson, as if it’s our job to teach them a lesson.

I’ve tried this approach many times, and, unsurprisingly, I’m never satisfied with the results. It's an "eye for an eye" mentality that is so detrimental to not only ourselves, but those around us as well. "Oh? You're going to be like that? Well I’ll show you." And you know what? It never leaves me empowered or with any sense of entitlement. It leaves me feeling empty inside.

I’ve come to realize that when my Judgement Day rolls around, all excuses go out the window, and the brutal truth will come out. I will not be able to say, “Well, God, they did this and this and this to me,” because in that moment God will not care what anyone else did. God will look me straight in the eye and say,

“But what did you do to fix it?”

Uhhhh...the brutal truth? I did nothing...

..until now.

So I’ve decided to add on to “I’ll show them.”

I will show them. But I will show them kindness. I will show them love. I will show them respect.

I’ll teach them a lesson, but it will be a different kind of lesson. It will be a lesson that will help the both of us get to Heaven.

Women's March: An Eye for An Eye

Disclaimer: In this post I'm choosing to put all personal beliefs aside. I'm strictly talking about the content seen in the march itself, and nothing else. And no, this does not pertain to all women who were present, just the vulgar ones.

I've seen many photos from this Women's March, and I can't help but feel so much sadness from what many women claimed to be proud to represent.

Pictures of the middle finger flashing on cardboard in the midst of the crowd, signs containing curse words spewed around as if this is the loving language that will make our world a better place, "Don't Worry, We Still Hate You, Walker" (yes, an actual sign from those proclaiming "love"), inappropriate and vulgar use of male and female body parts plastered on signs in clear view to the eyes of the children standing right beside them. I could go on, but I'm already feeling sick.

These signs are mean, vulgar, and crude.

Now a real quick question. If I'm correct, wasn't one of the reasons that this Women's March started is because Donald Trump is mean, vulgar, and crude???

You all are protesting by using the exact same tactics as the man that you are protesting about. Think about that for a second...does that really make any sense?

This was far from a "Women's" March based solely on the fact that the majority of what I saw was hate. Women are not full of hate. Women are intrinsically filled with love, it's in our nature. But not yesterday. Yesterday many were fueled by hate, revenge, and pure disdain.

You all are fighting because you demand respect, but by the looks of it, many of you don't even know how to show respect any better than Donald Trump himself.

An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind. And honestly, based on yesterday, I believe our world is just that- absolutely blind.

The Transgender Agenda Vs. Women

More and more everyday I see men putting on heels, slapping on some makeup, and calling themselves a woman. And every time I see it, my heart sinks. Are these really the qualifying factors of a woman? Am I nothing more than the makeup I wear, the dresses I put on, and the long hair on my head? Today it is as simple as putting on some girly clothes, decorating your face with makeup, and there you have it, you've turned a man into a woman.

This is exactly what the Transgender Agenda is instilling into our society. They want us to believe that a woman is nothing special, that she does nothing that a man can't do, and it boggles my mind how more women are not outraged by this. Isn't that what we've been trying to tell the world for so many years? That us women can do MORE?

Well I will tell you right now, I am MORE than this.

I am a woman. By God's amazing grace I have the ability to create life in my body and let it grow for 9 months. I have the organs to provide all that is needed for growing a baby. I can give birth to human life through a process I know men could never even dream of handling. I can nurture a baby and be its sole nourishment for months and months on end.

A man cannot do what I do. He will never be able to carry a baby with his God-given organs. He will never be able to provide nourishment unless he buys it from a store first. He can put on a dress and makeup all he wants, but it will never give him the power to do what God has allowed women to do.

I will never let the beauty of a woman be so beaten down that all it comes down to is a costume and make up. Stand up for women, and show the world that you are more. The Transgender Agenda is making a mockery of womanhood, and I will fight until the day I die to preserve the beauty and dignity of woman all around the world.

We Should Want Heaven for the World

Today I wanted to tell you about St. Maria Goretti, a young martyr from Italy in 1902. When Maria was 11 years old, her 18-year-old neighbor, Alessandro, attempted to rape her. She screamed and said, "No! It is a sin! God does not want it!" and went on to say that she would rather die than submit. When Alessandro heard these words, he went on to stab her 14 times.

Maria was found laying on her kitchen floor, and was rushed to the hospital. Through almost 20 hours of excruciating surgical procedures with no anesthesia, the effort was hopeless. The stab wounds were too awful to heal. In Maria's last moments of life, a priest had asked her if she forgave her attacker Alessandro, and her last words were, "I forgive Alessandro Serenelli...and I want him with me in Heaven forever."

Wow. What beauty.

Many of us want Heaven for ourselves, for our families, friends, and loved ones, but how many times have we said that we want Heaven for our enemies? It is a hard thing to do, no doubt, but it is a beautiful and holy thing.

Maria Goretti not only forgave her killer, but she wanted a beautiful eternity for him as well. She wanted the absolute best for him, and nothing less. And it is even more incredible that this was only about 24 hours after he had stabbed her while she sat in excruciating pain.

So let us remember that we should want Heaven for not only those we love, but also for those that are hard to love. We should want it for all those that don't know God. We should want it for all those that claim they do not want Heaven. We should want it for those who have wronged us. We should want it for the angry, the sad, and for those who hurt. We should want it for the murderers, thieves, and the imprisoned.

We should want Heaven for the world.

Below is a picture of Alessandro Serenelli, a changed man, praying to St. Maria Goretti.
He repented while in prison, and lived a holy life until the day he died.

External and Internal Perfection

We live in a world where perfection is of utmost importance. We have to have the perfect job, perfect car, perfect house, perfect cookie-cutter life. When we put this all together, we create our external perfection.

We all strive for this external perfection in one way or another. It's human nature to want to seem "put together," like we've got life all figured out. But in reality I think we can all agree that we probably put more effort than we should into making our lives seem perfect to those around us.

Perhaps we should wonder, though, where is this external perfection going to get us in the end? Where is all of it going to go once we leave this earth? I'll tell you plain and simple, it's going to stay right where you left it. The second you take your last breath, all of your material objects will become obsolete. They will mean nothing to you anymore, and they will do nothing for you. Your fate will not be determined by your car, your house, or your "stuff." Instead, it will be determined by something much more important, something much more crucial to your well-being. Your internal perfection.

Kindness, love, generosity, charity. These are the qualities that will ultimately determine our eternal life. We are all going to be standing at those pearly gates one day and we will be asked, "But how kind were you? How much love did you give? Did you give until you could give no more?" And we will have to answer each and every question with brutal honesty.

We will not be able to say, "But God, look what I have achieved. Look at my house, look at my car, look at my bank account." Our external perfection means nothing to God unless we have used it to benefit someone else. Did you use your house as a shelter for others? Did you use your car to complete good deeds? Was your bank account used to give to charity? If not, then your external perfection has gotten the best of you.

So let us strive for internal perfection, not external perfection. Let us strive for perfection in our hearts, not perfection in our houses. Let us strive for perfect kindness, not perfect paychecks.

In the words of St. Francis of Assisi, "Remember that when you leave this earth you can take nothing that you have received- only what you have given."

Submission and Love in Marriage

Submission is such a feared word among both men and women today. It is viewed as a sign of weakness, a sign that "you can't hold your own." However, to be able to submit to another person is a quality that takes so much strength and fortitude, it is hardly a sign of weakness.

Submission plays a big part in marriage as I have learned in the past few months. I remember when the priest quoted Colossians 3:18 during his sermon at our wedding. Those dreaded words came out of his mouth echoing through the church:

"Wives, be subject to your husbands."

I can just imagine what was going through the minds of those sitting in the pews who are not so religious, and I'm sure it went something like this:

Woman: "Are you kidding me?! She should not have to subject to him! She is not his property. How dare they say that."

Man: "Yeah man! What I say goes. This guy knows what he's talking about! I'm going to use this line next time."

But what they failed to hear is the next verse which is of utmost importance.

"Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter towards them."

Women, do not think you have the short end of the stick here. You may be thinking, "Why do I have to break down and submit to him, and all he has to do is "love" me?" But I think we all know that loving someone, especially when you don't particularly feel like loving them, is hard work.

These men are not getting off easy by any means. God does not say to them, "Love your wives only when they're making you happy." No, it simply says to love. He must love you when you're being difficult, he must love you when you're moody, he must love you when you're mad. And I give men props for this, because I know how I can be, and I know how other women can be, and let's just say that we can be quite scary sometimes.

Yes, girls, the verse does still say to submit to your husbands. Allow him to be the head of the household, let him make the final decisions on what is best for the family. And if you love him as you should, your submission will not seem so difficult. But remember, men, while you are making these decisions, you must do it with supreme love for your wife. If you love her with your whole heart, you will make decisions with her in mind.

Submission and love go hand in hand, for there cannot be one without the other. It takes both to make a couple grow together through life's trials and tribulations.

Marriage is no picnic, my friends, but with genuine effort and love from one another, it can turn into something truly beautiful.

Balance: Love the Sinner, Hate the Sin

I find that, as a Catholic, the hardest thing I struggle with is balance. It's hard finding a good balance between when I should pray and when I should play, when I should relax and when I should work, but most of all, I find balance is quite hard when it comes to sticking up for my faith.

Balance is quite important when it comes to the Catholic faith. First and foremost, Jesus tells us to "Love your neighbor as yourself." It's one of the two Great Commandments, and it's a requirement for Heaven. Yet Jesus also tells us to not fall into the ways of the world for we are suppose to live in the world, not of the world. We are not suppose to conform to what society deems as "normal" when it actually goes against the rules that God has laid out for us. But it's hard sticking up for your faith without seeming as if you're condemning someone or severely judging them for their actions.

So the question is, is it really possible to love someone while also speaking against what they do and the lifestyle that they live?

It really is possible, but it takes balance. I struggle with this so much because it requires a great deal of discipline, so much that I feel I will spend my entire life trying to perfect it.

One thing that has really helped me as I try to find this balance in my life is learning exactly what to judge. I read something once that said you can judge someone's actions, but you cannot judge their intentions. There is nothing wrong with making a conclusion about a situation or a lifestyle that someone chooses to follow. What you can't conclude, though, is that their intentions are evil.

We are not given the ability to read the hearts of others. That job is solely for God and God alone because only He knows the true intentions of each and every person on this earth. If you speak against something, speak against it with a gentle disposition. Speak against it because of how much you love God, not because you just want to tell someone what they're doing wrong. If that is too hard (and with our human nature, it definitely can be sometimes) choose to lead by your life example for this will show others more than words ever could.

In the words of St. Augustine, "Love the sinner, hate the sin."

Motherhood: One year later

Grace has her first birthday on Saturday, and I still can't believe it. One year ago I started a new journey as a full time mother, and I have loved it every step of the way. Now although it hasn't been without its trials, it has undoubtedly been the best year of my life. Motherhood is a constant battle of messy diapers, tears, and "No, Grace. No, don't touch that," but it is also a constant reward of smiles, kisses, and hugs every single day.

I wanted to take some time to write down the things that my little Grace has continued to remind me in this wonderful past year. While it is known that parents are the role models for their children, I find myself everyday thinking that I should actually aspire to be more like Grace. It is so true that children look up to their parents, but I think us parents need to take some notes from our own children as well, for Jesus Himself says in Matthew 18:3, "In truth I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you shall not enter into the kingdom of Heaven."

Actions speak louder than words.

Although Grace cannot communicate verbally, the love that radiates from her actions speak louder than words ever could. Words can't even describe how I feel when she looks at me from across the room and just smiles. Not a word is spoken, yet I feel like she has said a thousand words in just one smile. What if we all looked at each other and just smiled more often? What if we just gave each other a little acknowledgement that "Hey, I see you, and it makes me happy to see you." Maybe all it takes is a little more smiling to make this world a better place. Let someone see that you are happy to see them. It's one little action, but it could change the world. It changes mine every single day.

Laughter is the best medicine.

If Grace falls and bumps her head, it's only natural for her to start crying. But as soon as I pick her up and play a quick "peek-a-boo" with her, or even just tickle her a bit, that crying is automatically substituted for her adorable laughter. Suddenly, that bump doesn't seem so bad anymore. I think we could all use a bit more laughter in our lives. So let's not dwell on the bad things that happen to us. Let's learn to move on to the happiness, because there really is so much to be happy about.

Forgiveness.

We were all born with an impeccable ability to forgive, but as we get older it somehow becomes harder and harder. We begin to hold more grudges, and our pride keeps us from moving on. Grace is my daily reminder to always forgive. She forgives so easily, as we all should. When I take something away from her she is incredibly upset. She looks at me, cries, sometimes even screams, but about .2 seconds later she's climbing onto my lap and giving me a hug. It melts my heart. In her eyes I have "wronged" her, but her love is bigger than that. Her love overpowers any anger that she could have.

Simplicity

Eat, sleep, play. Grace's daily schedule reminds me of how simple life could really be. She is so content with such simple items, and it is a reminder that there really was life before technology. She helps remind me to turn off the T.V. and pick up a book, turn off the music so I can kneel down and pray, turn off my phone so I can sit and write. Technology is not a necessity, it is just a luxury. We would definitely survive without it, and we may even be happier if there was just a little bit less of it.

Grace has literally been my "saving grace." She pulls me closer to God and makes me want to be a better person. I never knew that I could learn so much from a child so small, yet here she is, twenty pounds and showing me the path to Heaven. So thank you, Grace, for the never-ending love you continue to show me along with reminding me of what's truly important in life.

So what's my end consensus on motherhood, you ask?

10/10: Would definitely recommend.

The Best Jewelry is Modesty

"Dress how you want other women to dress around your husband."
~Kim Doebler

Modesty. That crazy, forbidden word.

The use of the word has significantly depleted since the 1800s, and nowadays it is synonymous with prude, goody-good, potato sack. Little did you know the word prude actually comes from the French word prou, meaning "good and worthy."

Now even though I'm not dressing to find a husband anymore, modesty will continue be a goal of mine until the day that I die. I still want others to see me for what my mind can do, not for what my body can do. I want to dress in a way so that other men to know how much I love and respect my husband, and I would never want to give another man the opportunity to look at me like I'm a piece of meat.

A couple of months ago I vowed to dress in a way that shows my feminine qualities while still holding true to my views on modesty. For me, pants and shorts just don't fit into these categories anymore. Pants these days are so skin tight that they fit more like spandex than they do pants, shorts are so short that you might as well not be wearing anything at all, and leggings, while they "cover" your legs, are nothing more than an extra layer of skin suctioned to your body.

The only thing that makes me feel like a woman anymore are skirts and dresses that at least come down to my knees or lower. Knee length is perfect because I can walk around and not have to continuously pull down my skirt to make sure nothing is showing. I can pick something off the ground and not worry if my skirt is going to fly up. And last but not least, skirts just make me feel pretty, and I absolutely love that feeling.

It's human nature to want to be respected by others, but the only way a woman can expect to be respected by a man is by respecting herself first. So many women think that they should be able to wear anything they want and still receive the respect that they somehow believe they are entitled to. Respect is earned. Let a man see you for the mind you have, and give him the opportunity to respect your heart and soul first. I love that when I met my husband, he respected me for my mind and soul, not for the body that I have.

You do not have to reveal your body to the public to make a statement of your confidence. Instead, reveal your dignity to the world to show the confidence that you truly have. Prove to the world (and to yourself) that you can attract a man's attention by the virtues that you possess and the love that you hold in your heart. You are more than the body that you have, so let a man's first impression of you be the mystique of your heart and soul. Let him come back wanting to know more of your mind, more of what's in your heart, more of the love that you hold.

Now I'm not saying dress in a potato sack. There is nothing wrong with dressing to impress or dressing with a figure. But dress with a dignity that leaves a man wondering what else you have to give.

Let his eyes be attracted to your soul, and he will respect you with the love that you truly deserve.

A Letter to my Baby Tiny Up Above

My dearest Baby Tiny,

Just ten short weeks to know you, and ten short weeks to love you with all my being. You were the life and love within me. Now you are my life and love from up above.

Your little soul was too strong for this world, your little heart was too good. But now there are bigger plans for you with God, plans that are filled with happiness, joy, and love.

Although I wish with all my heart to be the one to cuddle you and kiss you every night, I will gladly give that task to God. Now you will love Him just as I would have hoped you would, and in return He will show you more love than you ever thought was possible.

Only time will cure the absolute emptiness I feel with you gone, but my dear baby, you are in God's hands now, and what a great set of hands that is to be in.

Until we meet again,

Mama

The Infamous "But" Catholic

We all know at least one, and you might be guilty of it as well. Unfortunately, I shamefully know that I have. What I'm talking about is the infamous "But" Catholic. These people have a reputation of using the word "Catholic" and "but" in the same sentence, and in this day and age, they're probably not too hard to come by.

Common phrases of a "But" Catholic:

"I'm Catholic, but I have sex with my boyfriend/girlfriend."

"I'm Catholic, but I use contraception."

"I'm Catholic, but I just don't go to church on Sundays."

"I'm Catholic, but I think abortion is a woman's choice."

"I'm Catholic, but I support gay marriage."

Pretty much any sentence that starts with "I'm Catholic, BUT...." probably means that you're actually not Catholic. I think first we have to start by getting rid of saying "So-and-so" Catholics. There are no such things as "Liberal" Catholics, "Conservative" Catholics, or even "But" Catholics. You're either Catholic or you're not. And if you're going to be Catholic then my goodness BE Catholic.

Now this is something I definitely had to learn the hard way. So many times I wish I could go back and slap myself in the face for calling myself Catholic and then doing things that were blatantly against my Catholic faith. Because seriously, what's the point of calling yourself Catholic if you're not even going to follow it?

I think what many people don't understand (or don't want to understand) is that Doctrine in the Catholic Church is not simply a compilation of suggestions that we may choose whether we will or will not follow or believe. They are actual rules that say "You MUST believe and follow this in order to call yourself a Catholic."

I'm telling you right now, ditch the "But" Catholic mindset. Let's get away from "I'm Catholic, but..." and start saying "I'm Catholic. Period." It may not be easy, but my goodness it will be worth it.

Kenosha News Article: "Expecting fifth child, mom learns she has cancer. Family in Kenosha, friends provide support, prayers"

Expecting fifth child, mom learns she has cancer

Family in Kenosha, friends provide support, prayers

BY DENEEN SMITH

dsmith@kenoshanews.com

Michelle Cascio and her husband Tim say grace before a late lunch. Michelle is pregnant and due in March. During her pregnancy, she was diagnosed with an aggressive form of pancreatic cancer. She had surgery in the fall to remove the mass, but has refused chemo or radiation until after the baby is born.
A Kenosha family is seeking prayers and support for a mother who learned while pregnant with her fifth child that she has pancreatic cancer.

Tim and Michelle Cascio have four children — girls age 7, 5 and 2, and a 9-month-old son who has Down syndrome — and are expecting their fifth, a daughter they have already named Ciara, due in late March.

Michelle said she was experiencing pain in October and went to the hospital, thinking she had kidney stones during her pregnancy. In testing, doctors saw what they believed was a cyst on her pancreas.

She had surgery to remove what they hoped was a benign growth. “But they found it was cancer,” Michelle said. During the surgery half her pancreas was removed, along with her spleen.

While they went along with the surgery, Michelle said she and her husband have opted not to have any further treatment for the cancer during her pregnancy. She will need to have chemotherapy and radiation after the baby is born.

Although doctors have suggested she have the baby early, they plan to have the pregnancy go to term. “I’m not willing to do that right now,” Michelle said of the early delivery. “She’s been through so much, I’m trying to do everything I can to make sure she’s fine.”

Instead, the strongly Catholic couple and their extended family are focusing on prayer. She said her family and supporters are praying a novena to Our Lady of Good Success.

Tim Cascio grew up in Kenosha, one of nine children in a big Italian-Irish family. Although the couple now live in Menomonee Falls and are members of St. Stanislaus parish in Milwaukee, most of the family is still here.

Tim’s sister Kamela Gleason of Kenosha started an online GoFundMe campaign to try to help offset medical costs and any future needs for the family. The campaign has been shared among Catholic groups, and people have been reaching out to them with prayers and financial support. The fund raised about $20,000 in two days.

Michelle said she felt a bit strange about that — “you always look at those things and don’t think your own situation merits it. There are people out there with bigger need” — but said she has been touched by the outpouring of help. “I can’t believe how caring and loving people are,” she said. “People are so kind, from meals to prayers to masses to donations.”

Michelle’s faith is helping guide her. She said before she learned she was pregnant she was at church praying a rosary. “I just finished the rosary and I heard the voice of God. I know that sounds crazy, but he said five words to me. He said ‘I know what you need.’” Michelle said.

Shortly after, she said, she learned she was pregnant. “And I thought oh, this is what God means.”

Now, she is not sure. “I remember God telling me at the very beginning, I know what you need. I don’t know what that means. I don’t know if he is saying I know what you need to get to heaven.”

Regardless, she said, she feels strong and at peace. Funny, she says, because typically she is the type that cries at the sappy commercials and was in the past so worried about her health that her husband would joke that she was a hypochondriac.

“It has to be grace, because there is no other way I can do this,” she said. “It has to be because everyone is praying.”

Children = Bliss

"How can you say there are too many children? That is like saying there are too many flowers."
             -Mother Teresa

As many people may know, I want like...a bazillion children. Okay that may be an exaggeration, but I'm hoping for at least 7. Luckily I've found the world's most awesome guy that is okay with that, because nowadays they're very hard to come by.

I know I might seem incredibly crazy to some people, but that's why I'm here to tell you how having a lot of children will encourage my fiance and me to become better, more selfless people, while strengthening our marriage at the same time.

When people hear "lots of children" they usually wig out a bit. Most people wonder, "How in the world are you guys going to afford that?" but I think the biggest problem is that most people don't understand the definition of "afford." The word "afford" does not mean having enough money to buy everything you want. "Afford" means being able to have food, clothes, and shelter. That's all you need to survive. My children will never starve. They probably won't be eating steak off of a solid gold platter every night, but they will not starve.

Nowadays we don't work to survive. We don't even work to afford the common necessities. We work more because we want more stuff. We work harder because we're not okay with just "comfortable" living. We constantly need more and more and bigger and better. We are never satisfied.

Because of our fallen human nature, our natural instinct is to be selfish, to want more for ourselves. It's something that each and every one of us suffer from. Today the divorce rate is higher than ever, and I can guarantee you it is because couples are having less and less children, and buying more and more for themselves. They become caught up in the material world, and the material world is a very selfish place. With more children, husbands and wives learn selflessness. They focus less on themselves and their feelings, and more on others around them. They work harder because they want to give their children better lives, not because they want more for themselves. They learn to survive without the luxuries, and they learn to live more simply. My fiance and I will probably not have the funds to get each other the most expensive things, but we will be able to share the joy of the children that God created for us, and I'd take that over anything.

By choosing to have a lot of children, my fiance and I are choosing comfortable and doing away with luxurious. Instead of giving more to ourselves, we are choosing to give more to our children. Sure the money that we could have used to get a brand new car will probably go towards diapers, but to me that's a bit more rewarding. I think people are afraid that the more children they have, the less they will have for themselves. And that's actually a very true statement. By having a lot of children I am giving less to myself, but I know that I'm gaining something so much better. I'll have a bunch of little cuties running around calling me "Mama,"and I think that's worth a whole lot more.

Why The Pro-Abortion Movement Is Out Of Touch With Humanity

I haven't posted on my blog in almost a year, but I read an article today that completely enraged me so here goes nothing.

Lani Seelinger writes an article, "Why The Anti-Abortion Movement Is Out Of Touch With Reality," posted on Elitedaily.com. The link to the article is right below.

Click here to read this crazy article that enraged me

After reading this article by Lani Seelinger, I immediately came up with, what I call, a "counter-title." The fact that Seelinger considers me "out of touch with reality" proves that she doesn't even know the true definition of the word "reality."

According to our trusty Merriam-Webster Dictionary, reality is defined as "the state or quality of having existence or substance." How in the world is she able to tell me that I'm out of touch with reality, when, between the two of us, I'm the only one that is actually acknowledging existence and substance? She doesn't even make one note of existence in her article, or even acknowledge the baby, not even to the slightest extent. Even if she doesn't believe that that little baby in the womb is a human, she cannot deny that there is substance in the womb. If she does deny it, she must have never laid her eyes on an ultrasound before.

That being said, Lani Seelinger, I believe it is you who is out of touch with reality.

Now onto the very first line of her article.

Seelinger states, "In Texas, the anti-choicers are trying to shut down a court system that desperate teenagers can use to get an abortion without their parents' consent."

Wait, what? Let me first say that Seelinger's use of the word "desperate" is completely wrong. Let's go back to good ole Merriam-Webster and see what she has to say about the word "desperate."

"Desperate: adjective: feeling a hopeless sense that a situation is so bad as to be impossible to deal with"

First off, when has anyone ever trusted a teenage girl with her feelings? I've been a teenage girl before, and let me tell you my life was an emotional roller coaster. Teenage girls have a hard enough time deciding how they're going to do their hair in the morning, yet you want to allow them the decision to kill their innocent baby?

And as for the word "impossible" in the definition, last time I checked, giving birth to a baby is far from impossible.

A little further down in her article she says, "the teen must prove she is mature enough to choose an abortion and that telling her parents would put her in some kind of danger."

So the court is actually encouraging young girls to keep secrets from their parents? Well that sure shows our court systems nowadays.

Seelinger then states in her article that women are "trying to exercise the right of control over their own bodies."

But ya see, IT'S NOT JUST YOUR BODY ANYMORE. Goodness gracious, people.

Because of your own actions, you have now added +1 to the equation. You are now housing a human being. Even in cases of rape, it may not have been your actions that conceived a child, but nonetheless your body has become a shelter for that little one, and you are no longer the sole inhabitant.

She then goes on to call abortion "a necessary procedure." Hey, Merriam-Webster, can I get a definition of the word necessary for 500 please?

"Necessary: adjective: required to be done; essential"

How in the world is abortion essential? Even if a woman wasn't ready to be a mother yet, ever heard of adoption? Can't a mother suck up pregnancy for a mere 9 months in order to give their child the opportunity to live 80 years? Or has our world become so selfish that 9 months of pregnancy is just too much to bear?

Seelinger then concludes that her brilliant solution to fewer abortions is by providing "comprehensive eduction about birth control."

Well, Lani, I'd love to educate you on birth control and its horrible effects on hormones, brain cells, and also how it is now being found to cause cancer. Not to mention it takes a natural act that has a main purpose of pro-creation, and turns it into an unnatural, self-centered act.

No thanks, Lani, I'll pass on using birth control.

Last but not least, Seelinger states, "Making [abortions] illegal increases the likelihood of unsafe abortions."

So......suicide is usually done in horrible, unsafe ways. If someone wants to kill themselves, let's just tell them to go to a doctor so that way the doctor can kill them in a safe, secure way. Cause that makes so much sense.

All in all, I have concluded that it is not I who is out of touch with reality, but it is you, Seelinger, who is out of touch with humanity.

"Humanity: noun: the quality or state of being humane"

Sometimes Bliss = Cookies

Here you go Ellie, finally I'm writing on my blog again!

It's almost been a month since I've been here, and I can hardly believe it. Time is going way too fast, but I'm having the time of my life! I have to remember not to take any of this for granted even though I have a routine here. I still cherish every moment cause I know in two short months I'll have to say "see ya later" to it all.

Easter weekend here is incredibly busy. The amount of tourists walking around was unreal, but I had about three different ones come up to me asking for directions so that was definitely a confidence booster.

When I arrived I was so nervous that I was coming here all alone, but now I realize it was the best thing I could've done. The social butterfly side to me has definitely come out more, I've made so many new friends, and I get so excited to meet new people everyday.

Before I left I always hated hugs (sorry Mom) and any kind of human contact honestly. But after living here and pretty much hugging and kissing every person on the cheek, I can finally give my mom the proper hug she's been asking for since my early teens. Once I return be prepared for a hug long enough to make up for lost times, Mom.

Food food food food...

There are these chocolate cookies here called Pan di Stelle. I buy a family sized bag every week cause I'm completely addicted to them. Since I don't want to gain 50 lbs I figured I should have some sort of self restraint. Since I would not even hesitate to down every single one of these delectable cookies in one sitting, I decided that when I first open the bag I am only allowed to eat the broken ones. But now I find myself "accidentally" dropping the bag in the store, and then placing all the heavy cans on top of the cookies in the grocery bag.....so my self restraint has flown itself straight out the window.

I won't even tell you guys how many pizzas I've eaten here, it's too embarrassing.

Also, Andrea and Anthony, I think every single person in Rome knows that I have a new nephew back home, since I usually bring it up in every conversation with every person I talk to. I also, against their will, show them approximately 20 pictures of him. #ProudAuntie

So glad to hear the snow has finally melted back home! I asked God to send the warmth from here to there so thank Him for that.

A presto e tanti baci!!

Finding Myself

I've always wondered what the phrase "find yourself" meant. There are no maps, GPS's, or compasses that will help you. You won't just walk down the street and see a big wooden box stamped with the letters "YOURSELF" on it. It doesn't work like that, but I think that's what makes life interesting. It's all trial and error. Unlike many things in life, "yourself" is something that you finally have complete and utter control over. No one can interfere unless you give them consent.

I was always rushing to find out what I want to do, where I want to live, who I want to marry, how many kids I want to have, etc. I could bore you with lists of all the things that have gone through my mind. Instead, I have to take a step back, remember why I'm here on this earth, and take it one step at a time.

Ok, sentimental part of this post is over.

ROME. My goodness I wake up every morning and just thank God that I've been given the opportunity to do this. That is, unless, I'm awaken by the Italian lady next door who decides to yell (what my guess is Italian profanities) at precisely midnight and 6:00am...But just give me 10 minutes in the morning to stop being angry at her, and then you can bet at 6:10am on the dot I am thanking God for all of this.

The city is beautiful, the streets are beautiful, you could see a leaf on the street and I'd probably describe it as beautiful. I don't know how the people ever get used to this. Even if I lived here for 10 years I feel like I'd still be bringing a camera with me everywhere just in case I needed to take a picture. Every walk seems like a new history lesson, and I feel like I have never learned so much in five days.

I had my first Italian class yesterday, and it was perfect. There is a Russian, Chinese, Korean, Canadian, Swahilian, and French person in the class. Talk about a diverse group, huh? We spend the first two hours working on Italian grammar, and the next two hours on solely conversation. None of us are allowed to speak our native languages, only Italian, so my brain starts to hurt by the 4th hour. I wouldn't trade it for anything though.

I feel like I need to go-go-go when touring the city, but I've now learned to slow down and take it day by day. I know I'll appreciate it much more in the end because I'll truly have experienced everything to the fullest. I have a whole list of places that I want to visit so I can't wait to put up all the pictures. Tomorrow I believe I'm headed to the Pantheon, so pictures will be up very soon!

Arrivederci!

Sono arrivato a Roma!

Sono arrivato a Roma!!

I flew to Frankfurt, Germany, first, which was a 9 hour flight. It was quite the adventure. The gentleman to my left watched 4 movies on the way there and cried during 3 of them. Who would've thought a German could be so sensitive? And then the lady to my right had about 6 glasses of wine so she was feeling pretty good by the 3rd hour in.

And then there was me, stuck smack dab in the middle. The lady to my right told me that she was so surprised I could crunch up with my legs on the seat and sleep. I jokingly told her, "That's what happens when you share a house with 7 people, you learn to make do with the room you have." It seems she took it pretty seriously and felt bad for me because she then gave me her extra blanket out of sympathy and continuously offered me food that she wasn't going to eat...

Finally after arriving in Germany, I hopped on the next plane to Rome. After we landed, I got my luggage and walked out to see a 6 foot Italian man holding up my name written on an iPad. He carried all my luggage out to a fancy car and called me "madam" approximately 50 times. He then took me to my apartment and bid me farewell as I went up the elevator to meet my host mom.

My host mom, Lucia, has made me feel so welcome and I have only been here for a day. She tries her best to help me understand Italian, and I already feel like I am getting better.

We went walking around to see my school, the Colosseum, stopped for some gelato, and then stopped at the Supermercato. I have never seen more Fiats and cats in my entire life. Fiats and cats, cats and Fiats, cats on top of Fiats...seems like such an odd combination, but it's Rome, so va bene.

Day 1 of Italia- SUCCESS!

Arrivederci!

Never-Ending Bliss

As I am sitting here in a coffee shop, my green tea to my right, a whole-grain muffin to my left, it all seems a bit too cliché. My life is not nearly interesting enough to write a blog, yet here I am, and here goes nothing. My primary goal is to not bore anyone to sleep during the process, so fingers crossed.

While I try to prepare myself mentally, emotionally, and spiritually to embark on a three-month journey that will take me halfway across the world, I thought now is as good of a time as any to make some use of the thoughts prancing through my head.

My first post is all about one word, a word that is also the inspiration for the name of my blog.

Bliss- noun. - perfect happiness; great joy.

This word could possibly be my favorite word in the English language. Its simplicity rolls right off the tongue so effortlessly.

But what exactly is bliss? What does it even mean to be perfectly happy?

I've been searching for an answer to this for a long, long time. I started to believe it could be achieved by a large friend group, a perfect home-life, a perfect boyfriend, but after experiencing all of these things, I never found what I would call "bliss". Yes, all of these things gave me great happiness, but I always imagined "bliss" to be something a bit more.

Then it hit me.

There is one place in the entire world where I have never been sad....wait for it...wait for it....

Church!

Ironic, huh? The one place that gives me the most happiness is a place that isn't all about me. All along I was searching for happiness solely for myself, and how selfish is that? I spend so much of my time asking for favors from God that I take it for granted. That one hour in Church is finally a time where I can say "It doesn't matter what I receive. Now let's see how much I can give." The only way I will obtain a great state of bliss is by giving. And this brings me to the first half of my blog title Never-Ending Bliss.

It's as simple as this, we can never ever give too much.
